History

Settled by Welsh Quakers in the late 17th century, Radnor was one of the original townships established as part of William Penn's land grant. The settlers named it after their homeland in Wales, and it quickly became an agricultural community. By the 19th century, Radnor's significance grew with the expansion of the Pennsylvania Railroad, transforming it into a key stop along the Main Line, a series of affluent suburban communities connected to Philadelphia. The railroad brought economic growth and spurred the development of grand estates, prestigious schools, and stately homes, shaping Radnor into an elite residential area.
